Tarot Reading

Film · 2015 · transformation

Genre: Fairy Tale / Daydream / Surrealist Experiment Starring: Gabi, Doris Egbring-Kahn, Miho Takayasu Music: Takushi Minagawa Written and Directed by: Aneta Panek

A little girl named Gabi wanders through the dusty, creaking corridor of an old apartment — somewhere in the world, at a moment lost in time.

Playfully, she opens one door after another. Behind each one, a strange new world unfolds, leading her into a series of unexpected encounters.

She meets the legendary Russian prima ballerina Anna Pavlova, performing The Dragonfly. She encounters King Kong climbing the Empire State Building. A Japanese Kagura dancer and Shinto priestess performs a ritual dance to ward off evil spirits. And an old woman reads the Tarot, gazing into a future yet to come.

Behind the final door, Gabi discovers a mysterious forest. A clearing opens onto a lake. And suddenly, the little girl takes flight.

Was it a dream — or was it real? What happened?

Moving freely between fairy tale, daydream and surrealist experiment, the film unfolds as a playful journey through imagination, memory and the mysterious worlds that may be waiting behind an ordinary door.

The film has been screened internationally, including at the New York City Independent Film Festival, the Peach Moon Art Festival in Tokyo, the Goethe-Institut in Osaka, and the Berlin Short Film Festival.
