LA LOGE NOIRE. A film programme curated by Clara Pacquet and Aneta Panek, rooted in the tradition of midnight movies. Screenings take place at midnight on the first Friday of every month at the BABYLON cinema on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße in Berlin — a legendary venue and historic building constructed in 1929, at roughly the same time as the Volksbühne, located just next door.
On LOGE NOIRE nights, absinthe is served and the air is scented with Marlene Dietrich’s favourite perfume, “Veilchen” (“violet,” but also “black eye”). Created in 1929, the same year as the building that houses the BABYLON today, the fragrance contributes to the sensual atmosphere and the journey through history.
The programme presents a selection of feature films exploring the magical dimension of cinema — works that embody a baroque aesthetic while questioning the very nature of cinematic representation.
